There was a knock at the door and Lan Zhan opened it. Then his heart stopped.

“Wei Ying.”

“Hey, Lan Zhan! I’m just returning your pen.”

“Wei Ying, you borrowed this from me, thirteen years ago.”

“That would be correct.”

“Then you disappeared.”

“Also correct.”

“Why?”

Wei Ying ran a hand through his hair. “It’s a long story, involving some fugitives who were actually good people and some small crimes I may or may not have had to commit in order to help them…”

“I would have helped you.”

“Lan Zhan, I didn’t want to get you mixed up in this.”

“Come in.” Lan Zhan stood aside.

“Are you sure?”

“Yes, I’m sure,” Lan Zhan nodded.

Wei Ying entered and looked around. “This is nice. Fancy. I heard you did well for yourself.”

“Wei Ying, I would have helped you.”

Wei Ying smiled sadly. “Would you? Or would you have tried to hide me away and stop me doing anything you deemed dangerous?”

Lan Zhan hung his head. “I…I would have at-least liked to have known you were okay. I thought…I didn’t know if you were…”

“I’m sorry, Lan Zhan.”

“Are you…back?” Lan Zhan asked.

“I errr…for a few years now things have been better and I…I wanted to see you. I knew as soon as things seemed calmer…you would be the first person I would want to see.”

“I am glad.”

“You are?”

“Of course. I am glad to see you, Wei Ying.”

Wei Ying smiled. “So…I hope you weren’t missing that pen too much.”

“I was actually, I have searched and searched, I even put up missing pen posters,” Lan Zhan joked.

“Ha ha ha, I’m so sorry Lan Zhan! Seems I caused you some serious trouble by taking it!” Wei Ying sparkled.

“Yes, I missed it. A great deal,” Lan Zhan said pointedly.

Wei Ying blushed and ducked his head.

“How long will you stay?” Lan Zhan asked.

“Um…that sort of depends on you, if you would allow me to see you…”

“Yes.”

Wei Ying grinned. “Really? Then I’ll be around.”

“Where are you staying? Do you have money?” Lan Zhan pried.

Wei Ying laughed. “I’m fine, Lan Zhan. I’ll just stay in a hotel at first. I might move back here, depending on…”

“You will stay here with me.”

“Huh?”

“I have a spare room, Wei Ying. You will stay here with me.”

“Lan Zhan, I don’t want to take advantage.”

“I want you to stay, please. Stay. I would like to have as much time with you as you are willing to give.”

“Lan Zhan, you forgive me so easily?”

“Yes.”

“Is it really this simple to be back in your life?”

“Yes.”

Wei Ying chuckled. “Lan Zhan, I don’t remember you being this amenable. Were you not the one who tried to get me expelled for chewing gum in class?”

“It was very distracting,” Lan Zhan replied.

“Oh, I see! And who was I distracting, Lan Zhan?”

“Me. With your mouth.”

Wei Ying’s mouth dropped open. “Lan Zhan! You have changed!”

“Do you approve?”

“I do indeed!”

“Good. I have tried to improve myself. I wanted to be a better man, for you.”

“For me?”

“I never gave up hope, that you would return.”

“Lan Zhan, I feel like I’m in a dream.”

“This is not a dream, Wei Ying.”

“I’ll stay with you, Lan Zhan,” Wei Ying smiled.

“You will?” Lan Zhan hoped.

“Yes, but I’m going to get my own place soon.”

“Mn. We’ll see.” Lan Zhan smiled.

“Lan Zhan, I’m going to look for my own place!”

“Mn. We’ll see.”

“Lan Zhan!”

Wei Ying never did find his own place. Lan Zhan kissed him after one week of them living together and Wei Ying kissed him back and they became so obsessed with each other even the thought of having different addresses made them both too sad, so Wei Ying never moved an inch.

Lan Zhan rang his brother to tell him the news and found the conversation a lot easier than he thought it would be:

LWJ: Wei Ying has returned.
LXC: Let me guess, you got him to live with you and now you are in a relationship?
LWJ: Yes.
LXC: In the words of Huaisang, called it!

Wei Ying also had the same conversation with his brother:

WWX: So I went to see Lan Zhan…
JWY: Did you suck his face off and decide you are disgustingly in love?
WWX: Yes! How did you know?
JWY: Everyone knew but you two. I’ll see you both for dinner tomorrow. Bye.

Lan Qiren was less than enthused until he found out that Wei Ying was going to adopt a distant relative:

LQR: When does the baby arrive?
WWX: Hello Uncle! Thank you for calling! We’re doing well, thank you for asking.
LQR: When does the baby arrive?

WWX: Lan Zhan and I are just heading out to eat, would you like to come?
LQR: When does the baby arrive?
WWX: I will tell you, if you come out for something to eat.
LQR: I will come.
WWX: Good. We’ll pick you up in half an hour.
LQR: Good then baby soon?
WWX: Yes, baby soon.

Lan Zhan was happier than he ever thought possible. Wei Ying was back. He woke up to Wei Ying everyday and fell asleep with him every-night. There were countless kisses and endless caresses and every day seemed easier somehow now, even the hard ones brought some joy.

Wei Ying woke up everyday wondering how he got so lucky. Lan Zhan often greeted him with a kiss and a coffee and there was so much love and admiration in his eyes, Wei Ying kept wondering if Lan Zhan thought he was someone else.

Whenever he asked Lan Zhan this, Lan Zhan would smile and kiss the end of his nose and tell him there was no one above Wei Ying in his heart. A-Yuan would often waddle into the room and squeeze between them demanding cuddles which his parents were happy to provide.

Wei Ying and Lan Zhan smiled at each other over their son’s soft head of hair...

“I’m really glad I returned your pen, Lan Zhan,” Wei Ying said with watery eyes.

“Me too, Wei Ying. Me too.”
