Fáith, Old Irish for poet, has cognates such as Old English wōd, as in Wōden, both from PIE *weh₂t: possessed or excited. Likewise, ṛ́ṣi (Vedic poet) is cognate with German rasen and Lithuanian aršùs, meaning rage/fierce. The Indo-European poet is a divinely-possessed madman.
