I agree mostly but I don’t think there’s necessarily anything wrong with a culture that gives status to homecoming queens over science nerds. Not saying that this is what Vivek is saying here but there’s often that general tone to these kinds of discussions.

But yes it would be silly to then demand equal outcomes.

Cultural diversity and different groups with various niches make us great. 🇺🇸

There is nothing ideal about a society where we just maximize everyone’s chances of going into STEM.

Different individuals, families and cultures will make different choices based on their own strengths and preferences.

We should seek the benefits of immigration in order to maximize innovation and wealth. This creates the opportunity for people to be who they are. You wanting a programming job that others could outcompete you for makes the country poorer and harms everyone else’s ability to maximize their own well being.
