I have no opinion on what women find attractive, but here's how I think a quarter zip sweater would look better. š§µ

The original discussion was over these really basic quarter zips, which are fine. I just think they look a little boring, like a plain merino crewneck. Especially when worn with slim chinos and basic sneakers, which is how they're worn 99% of the time.

There's nothing inherently wrong with a zipper, but I just think the outfit would look better if it had a little more sauce. This new one from Kapital has more texture and a splaying collar. It's likely expensive, although Le Laboureur has something similar for $198.

I think that would look nice with vintage Dickies double knee carpenter pants, black Blundstone boots, and a sling bag (like Kapital's Snufkin). Imagine you're going to Dries van Noten's Belgian country home.

Or you're going packing for a trip at Inn at Kenmore Hall, which is a bed and breakfast in Richmond, MA set-up by former J. Crew menswear director Frank Muytjens. Imagine this as the outfit you'll wear while drinking lapsang souchong tea in the garden.

Now, I realize most people are wearing quarter-zips in more normal situations, such as the office, and often in conservative sectors such as finance, law, and tech. In those situations, I would try to wear a tailored jacket and find ways to dress it down.

Maybe that means losing the tie. Or wearing it with chinos or jeans instead of wool trousers. Maybe even swapping the leather shoes for plain canvas sneakers if you must. The tailored jacket does a lot for an outfit because it builds a flattering silhouette.

If a tailored jacket is absolutely too dressy, then maybe a textured sweater instead of a plain merino. Or a topcoat (although that's more for arriving at the office, rather than while at the office). Some ideas on business casual here:

There's a certain look with the quarter zip that I find a bit bland, but I also realize we all live different lifestyles and have different personalities, and sometimes this is the best option. If you can, I think texture (pic 2) is better than too smooth (pic1).

I know from experience that a lot of men are going to pile into my commentsāguys with red avatars and beams coming out of their eyesāand say wearing this makes you a stupid gay tryhard. Gardens are gay. Tea is gay. The Belgium countryside is super gay. Etc etc etc.

To such alpha men, I suggest that you gather the courage to dress differently from others and wear a sport coat to the office. IMO, this still conservative enough for business yet looks more stylish than the basic quarter zip business casual outfit.

honestly so glad i dont care about these things bc i would not be able to live if i had to cut off 90% of the world's offerings out of fear that someone might think i have a sexual interest in men
