Due to a personnel shortage in the Russian Federation's ground forces, the Ukrainian Armed Forces' offensive in the Kursk region is being countered by a temporary motorized rifle regiment of the Aerospace Forces, specially assembled from servicemen across Russia. 2/8

The motorized rifle regiment, composed of Aerospace Forces servicemen, including officers, was formed in May-June 2024 and integrated into the so-called 'North' border protection group. 3/8
4
The regiment has no permanent deployment base, with Aerospace Forces infantry arriving in the border areas several weeks before the Ukrainian Armed Forces' breakthrough in mid-July. 4/8
5
The unit was composed of soldiers from security and logistics, engineers, mechanics, and a small number of flight crew officers. 5/8
6
They were reassigned to the infantry from the 'Ukrainka' airfield in the Altai Territory, 'Belaya' airfield in the Irkutsk Region, and 'Engels' airfield in the Saratov Region. 6/8
7
Additionally, servicemen from one of Russia's cosmodromes, as well as personnel from specialized Aerospace Forces warehouses and the Voronezh radar stations, were reassigned to the infantry. 7/8
8
These radar stations, deployed along Russia's borders, are crucial for providing early warnings of cruise and ballistic missile strikes, including those with nuclear warheads. 8/8
