🧵 Ongoing Zundel trial scraps. This is just some pieces to the Vrba cross examination. The entire thing is worth reading.

Starting off on the right foot Vrba immediately refused to answer questions regarding his book unless the entire Jury read it. That did not go over well.

The judge stopped the proceeding, dismissed the Jury and told him he will answer the questions, he will not make demands. This is the very start of his interview and it was hostile the whole time.

Refresher on Vrba: He escaped from Auschwitz and met up with the allies and was a source for a report of atrocities that came out before the war. The WRB and OSS made the report. It’s very important to holocaust history.

He also later wrote a book on this event.

The lawyer points out there were 667 escapees from Auschwitz and not one ever reported these atrocities.

This is just Vrba being a dick. The entire process was like this with Vrba attempting to say the lawyer (Christie) is trying to trick him. Claiming Christie isn’t paying attention to his words. Vrba comes across as a very mean and petty man.

After a line of questioning catching Vrba in lies the lawyer just straight up calls him a liar. There were several lies. One of them is relating a conversation between Himmler and Hoess, and then later admitting he wasn’t even near them.

Previously Vrba had stated anyone that couldn’t work was killed by guards. He also says most Jews were just killed upon arrival.

But Vrba had an infection was taken to the hospital and had surgery under anesthesia and recovered at Auschwitz. Not hard to see how the problem.

This is just an interesting note. Vrba says he estimated 2.5 million deaths.

Rudolf Hoess also confessed to 2.5 million deaths under torture. Today no mainstream historian believes that. The official estimate is around 1.1 million. So we know Hoess confessed to a lie.

The point is whoever tortured that confession out of Hoess obviously wanted him to say 2.5 million were killed. Why 2.5 million? Why that specific number?

Because that was the number Vrba gave them a year before the war ended. Hoess was tortured into corroborating Vrba.

This is maybe about half the cross examination. I’ll cover more on Vrba tomorrow. All the witness testimony was a disaster. They had obviously never been questioned on the inconsistencies of their stories. Vrba’s book is frankly ludicrous.
