Here's how I got 135,000+ impressions, 1,053 website visitors and 267 new email subscribers in 24 hours using a gamification tactic!
I was casually surfing the net 2 days ago on a Saturday evening to find new growth hacking tools for idea generation and testing.
I came across a "Typing Speed Test".
I prefer to keep my weekend posts light, so I thought, why not create a contest to see who can type the fastest?
To make this more than just a fun experience and to avoid directing people to another URL, I decided to have a typing test tool on my website to capture the traffic.
The next question was how to develop and embed this tool on my site before the weekend ended.
I reached out to devs, but got the following answers:
- It’s too complex
- I am on a vacation in Bali
- I don’t work on weekends
- It will cost you arm and a leg
- You can’t embed Angular into built-in platform without turnarounds and so on!
But I wanted to test this idea so much!! 😅🔥
So, I turned to ChatGPT for advice. I asked for the simplest way to implement such a tool in a few hours. The suggestion to find a pre-built tool and embed its widget resonated with me, since I think you should always "Ship Fast, Polish Later".
GPT recommended 4 typing tools and one matched my website's UI.
I checked their GIT, it was an open-source project and I was good to go with it, but could not find embeddable code under the src folder.
Then GPT suggested to embed it as an Iframe and provided 1 line of code!
Boom!
Done! Added speed typing test interface to the spaceleads .pro/typing
(Disclaimer: I don't know how to code, just know the fundamentals)
Finally, I added an email subscription option on the landing page of the typing contest and published the post on X!
After segmentation, I found that most of the emails are from developers – potentially ideal customers for my business!
End of story!
