Pregnant foxxian who ends up only having one kit... 🥺

He is SO overprotective of his baby. He doesn’t leave the nest for a whole month and instead keeps close to his kit, cleaning, feeding, and watching over it.

Dragonji of course provides for him the whole time. But

there are moments when foxxian’s ✨Mama Instincts✨ flare up and he gets defensive with dragonji. Snarling and baring his teeth at the dragon. Kicking him out of the nest. The whole shebang.

The only thing he can think about is protecting his only kit!

There is a small voice in the back of his mind that recognizes dragonji as his mate and husband, but after having his kit, foxxian has just been relying on his animal instincts.

And well, /dragons/ are natural predators. They are at the top of the food chain.

Of course foxxians instincts are telling him to fend off the predator!! What if he eats his baby...?

Dragonji is understanding and is content to watch his little fox family from afar, admiring how foxxian cares for their kit

And eventually foxxian has bouts of clarity where he gets all guilty about being mean to his mate.

It’s these moments that foxxian will let dragonji curl up around him while he nurses their baby.

Until foxxian kicks him out again 😂

Foxxian sometimes has days where he is utterly /devastated/ because he knows he would have had a larger litter.

The kits... just didn’t make it.

But this one did.

Foxxian pulls his only baby close, licking it’s head and grooming the small ball of fur.

“My baby,” foxxian will whisper fiercely. “My kit.”

The kit mewls, snuggling close to it’s mother and seeking food.

Foxxian knows that he’d do absolutely anything for his kit! Anything at all.

Eventually the first month passes and foxxian goes back to normal. Mainly.

He welcomes dragonji with open arms again and relishes in his mate bonding with their child. However, he is still incredibly territorial and does /not/ like anyone else entering

or even being near the jingshi. Lxc and lqr learned that the hard way.

Foxxian is nicer to the juniors, but still growls at them and glares. The juniors are safe to say Intimidated, because their lovely Wei-Qianbei has never looked or sounded like that before!

“He is a new mother,” dragonji explains calmly to them one day. “His instincts tell him to protect his kit. It is not personal. Even I was not spared from this.”

The juniors all go “Ohhh” at that, finally understanding why their Wei-Qianbei is acting weird.

Foxxian is entirely happy when the juniors leave the cr to go hunt pheasants for foxxian, because they want to care for him too.

He still growls at them while taking the food though 😂 and then scampers back to his nest with his kit!

The juniors are smitten, so it doesn’t phase them.

Foxxian eventually grows out of this behavior (but not entirely. He’s still a Mama Bear if provoked)

And maybe it comes as no surprise when next spring foxxian gets pregnant once more and has a litter of twelve 😂
