Wei Ying wasn’t sure how he had gotten into this stupid fucking situation. It was just supposed to be a stupid little night hunt, one he could handle alone and now he was the prisoner of some silly little clan wanting to make a name for themselves.
2
There hadn’t even been a resentful ghost. It had all been a trick to get what they really wanted. Wei Ying. Apparently from what he had heard them talking about they had tried to speak to Lan Wangji on a number of occasions about their problems and been denied.
3
Wei Ying was their leverage. He rolled his eyes. So fucking stupid. He would have knocked these kids out long ago if they hadn’t managed to use one of his own inventions against him.
4
The more a person struggled against the ribbon his hands were currently tied with, the more it drained their spiritual power. It was rather brilliant even if he did say so himself. And so instead of struggling and harming himself, Wei Ying has used the easier option.
5
The tracker talisman hidden in his robes was the only reason his dear husband allowed Wei Ying out of his sight. He had activated it the moment the men had trapped his hands. Lan Zhan would be arriving very soon.
6
“How do we get a message to the Lan clan to tell the great Lan Wangji we have his husband?” one of the men asked.

“No need. I have informed my husband for you. He should be here momentarily,” Wei Ying answered looking bored.

“What?” the man asked. He looked terrified.
7
“I’m sorry I thought you wanted an audience with him? I thought that’s what all of this was about?” Wei Ying retorted.

“We should go, if he knows our location we should go!” One man shouted.

Just then the door of the dwelling they were hiding in was kicked down.
8
“Husband!” Wei Ying grinned.

Lan Zhan looked at Wei Ying’s wrists tied together. His eyes turned cold.

“Now Lan Zhan, I’m fine. They didn’t hurt me. Let’s just try to negotiate…”

One of the men put a knife to Wei Ying’s throat. “Don’t move!” he shouted at Lan Zhan.
9
One strike from Bichen and the man dropped down dead. Wei Ying sighed. “What a waste,” he said, shaking his head. “Kids today! They don’t have any manners Lan Zhan!” Lan Zhan nodded his agreement as he tied the other two men together and handed them over to a Lan disciple.
10
Lan Zhan then untied Wei Ying and hugged him close.

“I’m fine Lan Zhan don’t fuss! See? I activated the tracker talisman straight away wasn’t that good of me?” he coaxed.

“You are forbidden to leave cloud recesses without me,” Lan Zhan replied.

Wei Ying rolled his eyes.
11
“Come on Lan Zhan! I only got a teeny bit kidnapped and I didn’t even try to struggle! I just called you right away! Look at all that self-preservation I displayed! Aren’t you proud?”

Lan Zhan nodded and kissed his nose. “Mn. I am.”

Wei Ying smiled. “Do I get a reward?”
12
“What would Wei Ying like?”

“I would like for my husband to tell me my favourite story of that one time when he was six and put on his Uncle’s robes and made himself a beard out of straw…”

“Wei Ying…”Lan Zhan said in a suffering voice.

“That’s what I want Lan Zhan!”
13
“Then you shall have it,” Lan Zhan said as they both mounted his sword.

Wei Ying giggled. “Yes! This is going to be worth getting kidnapped for!”

Lan Zhan growled.

“I mean, kidnapping is so scary! I was so afraid! Hold me tighter husband!”
14
Lan Zhan huffed out a laugh but he did tighten his arms around his husbands waist in response to his request.

Wei Ying sighed and leaned into him. “Hey, maybe next time I’ll get kidnapped by a clan who provides decent food. All they gave me was bread and water Lan Zhan!”
15
Lan Zhan nuzzled Wei Ying’s cheek. “I will have the chefs prepare food for you and you will not be kidnapped again, I won’t allow it.”

“You can’t protect me from everyone, Lan Zhan.”

“Mn. Can. If my wayward husband will do as he is told.”

“If only he would!” Wei Ying cried.
16
Lan Zhan did not seem amused so Wei Ying changed his tactic.

“Husband, I went through a traumatic experience today. Can’t you be nice to me?”

Lan Zhan sighed and kissed his cheek. “I am glad you are safe. You are my most precious possession.”
17
“Lan Zhan! What about Bichen?”

“Wei Ying is more important than Bichen.”

“Lan Zhan! You can’t say that right now! Bichen might drop out of the sky like a stone and kill us both!”

“Bichen would not. Bichen is obedient, unlike some others.”

“Lan Zhan!” Wei Ying laughed.
18
Lan Zhan huffed out a laugh and Wei Ying was happy to find that his mood had improved. Back at Cloud Recesses, Lan Zhan had the cook make all of Wei Ying’s favourites and he told Wei Ying the story he had requested while they ate. Wei Ying laughed and laughed.
19
When they curled up in bed together, Wei Ying nuzzled at Lan Zhan’s cheek and finally turned serious. “I will be more careful next time, husband. Now that I know I am precious to you, I will value myself more.”

Lan Zhan kissed his forehead. “Good. Wei Ying is irreplaceable.”
20
“Lan Zhan!” Wei Ying whined burying his head under the covers. “Now my heart is beating like a drum, how am I to sleep?”

Lan Zhan smirked in the dark. “Well if you can’t sleep…”

Wei Ying yelped as he was flung onto his back, then laughed as his husband lunged at him.
21
“Lan Zhan! So forceful! Be careful! I am but a delicate flower!”

Lan Zhan looked unconvinced. “You are more akin to a deadly nightshade,” he said kissing Wei Ying’s throat.
22
Wei Ying predictably laughed heartily at Lan Zhan’s joke until his laughter turned into moans under his husbands loving attentions. ❤️
