Jeongguk stares at the boy in front of him. It's not the first time he has to do this but he never gets used to this feeling. In that last minute when he wants to cut their connection to this world, they always beg, they don't want to leave, they want to stay.

And he's the one who has to take that away, it's not a choice! It's a curse. No one knows what happens to the majority of the people who die, but some a few of them end up in different shape and forms with different duties, Jeongguk never liked what he became.

He looks at the boy with wide toothy smile getting out of university with his books on his hand. He looks so carefree talking to his phone, not knowing what is going to happen to him later that day.
"Will you take him away too?"
Jeongguk looks at his side to the person who talked

"What are you doing here angel?" Asks Jeongguk.
Taehyung looks down, looking very sad over something.
"I gave birth to him 24 years ago, I remember that day. I keep my eyes on the people I gave birth to, I wished I could keep them forever. He was always a great person."

"You know it's not in my power. You have freedom not to start a life but I have to end it."
"But what if you try to jus-"
"Taehyung look at me. I'm the one that kills, that takes away. I have't touched anyone in centuries because no matter what I touch, it dies. I can't stop."

Taehyung looks down again. It bothers him, he doesn't know why, it just does. Somehow it feels like it's his fault.
"What's his name?"
This is the first time Jeongguk asked for the name of the person he's trying to take away. It takes Taehyung a few seconds to answer.

"He's Jung Hoseok." Jeongguk looks at him as if he's expecting to hear more. "His mother died during child birth and his dad... well he was never there. He went through a lot growing up in an orphanage but he was always kind to everyone, he always smiled."

"Do you think he deserves to die?" Jeongguk asks, it takes Taehyung off guard. This is not the first time they were having this conversation but this is the first time he asks something like that.
"Everyone dies Jeongguk, even we have."

"If you knew you had a family out there, that you still had a chance to breath, love and be free, would you want to go back to life?"
Every word that comes out of Jeongguk's mouth burns, somehow it feels so heavy in his chest.
"You know I don't remember Jeongguk, I don't know."

"Namjoon I'm serious if you come late I'll really shove that notebook up your ass."
Hoseok says in his phone. It's his birthday and that's the day he always celebrate with namjoon but he had to expect him to forget and miss the god damn bus.
"I'm sorry, This is all a mess."

Hoseok looked at the lights on the street and started walking when it got greet. "Joon I don't care if you fly or not, I want you here RIGH-"
That's the only thing namjoon hears before a very loud bip from a car and a sound of crushing. He doesn't know if it's his heart or a car.

When Hoseok wakes up he has a strange sensation. There is a strange sound around as if he's under water. He looks around, there isn't much to see, but there is someone, a boy sitting right next to him.
"Jung Hoseok right?"
He's confused, how does this boy know him?

"Do I know you?"
The boy just stares at him. He looks young, even younger than Hoseok himself.
"I'm Jeongguk."
Hoseok lifts an eyebrow, not sure what to do with that information. "Okay umm... Where am I exactly?"
"You're between earth and beyond."
"Excuse me?"

Okay this must be a joke. What the fuck is this boy on about?
"I didn't touch you yet."
"Ummm Thanks? Isn't that like, a normal thing to do? I don't exactly know you y'know?"
The boy looks very serious, it looks like there are millions of thoughts going through his head.

"You're literally two step from dying. You had an accident and if I touch you, it's all over. You can never go back."
Hoseok looks at him with a confused face before laughing. "Dude are you for real? Seriously just tell me what's up and we can just-" He cuts himself

The look on Jeongguk face tells him all, it says that he's serious. There is nothing amusing to Jeongguk in that moment. He wants to deny it, he really does but a part of him knows it's true. Him not breathing is perfectly clear sign of it being true.

"Am I... Am I really dying?"
Jeongguk just stares at him, he can't read what he's thinking but he knows something looks very off. "It's okay... I just wished I could have one last birthday with my best friend. But I get to see him later right? It's not the end!"

"I wonder what would happen if I stop?"
Jeongguk says, Hoseok just frowns. What?
"Sorry I can't follow what you're saying..."
"What if I never touch you. Will I be punished? Will you get to live?"
Hoseok doesn't know what to say. Of all things this had to happen to him?

"I mean... You're the angel in charge. Aren't you suppose to be forcing me to leave?"
"Normally yes but... Normally I don't know their names or lives."
"Aren't you going to be in trouble for this?
"All I know is that I'm banned from going back to beyond until I kill you."

"So the all mighty angel of death can't kill me just because he knows my name?"
Hoseok asks, frankly he's still not believing what's actually happening. Jeongguk just smiles, turns around and disappears, leaving Hoseok in emptiness.

Namjoon runs, he runs as fast as he can but when he gets there it's too late.
"Sir, sir have you seen my friend?"
He asks a random person on the street of their university.
"Excuse me?"
"My friend. We were talking, he was here then there was a sound and then screaming."

He feels choked up when the guy looks at him sympathetically. "Was your friend from the university? There was an accident about half an hour ago, I heard they took him to the hospital."
"W-which hospital?"
"They usually take them to the one in city center."

When Namjoon goes to the hospital he immediately asks for his friend, they tell him to wait. So he wait. One, two, three, four... Five hours passes until a doctor finally comes to talk to him. His friend is in coma, the doctor said the surgery went well but they don't know-

They don't know if he wakes up or when.
Namjoon doesn't cry, he feels too numb to cry. The doctor lets him see him in the emergency room just for a few minutes. He looks like he's just sleeping but Namjoon knows better. It hurts, it was all his fault.

"I'm sorry...If I wasn't late, if you weren't talking to me we could have just celebrated your birthday. This would never happen to you... I'm so fucking sorry."
And that's when he breaks down, he doesn't know that there is one person watching, the one who can change everything.

Jeongguk watches how Namjoon dries his eyes before leaving. Emotions... It's something he barely felt since a very long time ago, he wonder how it feels to feel that much pain over losing someone.
"What are you waiting for?"

Jeongguk turns to JIn, the one angel he was expecting. "You know you are interfering into a lot of lives. His time is over, you have to take him away."
"I won't do that."
"Guk... it's not a matter of you wanting or not, it's an order."
"And what if I don't?"

"Jeongguk..." Jin whispers, looking at Jeongguk with eyes full of sympathy and... and something else but Jeonguuk can't figure out what. "You know I can't just let you play with destiny, it's dangerous."
"And what will happen if I don't? I'm already dead and miserable."

"Death is not a punishment Jeongguk but it's never good to play with rules. We're angels, bound to work for the one above." Jin states.
"Is there even anyone above? If there is then why are they still punishing me? What if they do the same with that boy?"

"Why would I keep doing this for the one that never eased my pain and never will?"
Jeongguk says, looking down as if everything he says is just to convince himself.
"Jeongguk, please, don't make me do this."
"I won't kill him hyung, I want to see what is worse than this."

Jin looks up, feeling hopeless over what he's about to do. After everything, after all these time he tried to make thing right, it seemed it still wasn't enough. God knows how much he tried, it was just never enough. He never wanted to hurt this boy again but destiny always knew.

He closes his eyes, seeking for answers from his powers.
'Please, let me keep him safe. How can I make him happy?'
It only took a few seconds and he knew, he knew what was the closest thing to a happiness he could give him until he could come back to his senses.

"Guk... you know what's harder than dying?" Jin asked, Jeongguk just stared at him, not sure what to think. "Living and knowing when you're going to lose the ones you care the most about" Jeongguk's eyes widened. "Do you mean...?"

"You already know we have more than one angel of death, they just can't do what was assigned for you. But if you go there with your current powers, not only you'll be a bad luck to those around you, you'll also know every time you'll lose someone until you do your job."

"So... this is the brilliant plan destiny has for me after all these years, I'll remain destructive, only in a different shape."
"Guk please jus-"
"I accept."
"Guk-"
"I'll keep suffer, but I'll never take him away. Destiny can also take that as a failiour."
Jeongguk says harshly.

Jin just stares at him, hopeless over the fact that he can't change anything. It's all already decided. He bites his lip harshly before nodding.
"Jeongguk, as the angel of density I'll ban you from beyond to live as a lower being. You can't turn back unless you kill that being."

As Jin finishes Jeongguk feels a sudden pain on his chest, it's familiar yet the memory of it is so far away. He falls down, holding his chest and screaming in pain. His wings fall, his body aches and he falls into unconsciousness.

Next time Jeongguk opens his eyes he feels a huge pain in his chest and one in his head. He looks around, not sure where he is, he takes a deep breath to- wait what? breath? He starts coughing, since when he can breath? The the memories crush back in his head.

He sits, trying to figure out where he is. Trees, he sees trees! There is a swing in front of him,kids are playing with it. He looks at what he was sleeping on. He knows this place, the day before that incident he watched Hoseok playing with kids here. He stands up.

He wonders what should he do, where to go... His heart his beating fast, very fast. His hear... he has a heart! He suddenly feels like crying. He doesn't know when was the last time he cried, maybe entries ago but he just feels so sad and heavy.

He sits down again, pushing his face on his hand, hiding it from views and crying. He can't stop the sobs, he's not even sure why the tears are falling, his chest just hurts. Did he do the right thing? Is this really better than how thing were?

"Hey man... are you okay?"
He hears someone asking and looks up, quickly trying to dry his eyes.
"Yeah just... just sad."
The other person looks sympathetically at him before sitting beside him. "Tough day huh? Do you want to talk about it?" The stranger asks with a smile.

"Why are you asking. I don't even know you!"
"Ahhh sorry! My bad, I'm mark. I just heard you crying and I though maybe you need some guidance."
JEongguk is very confused. He saw enough humans during the time of him being angel to know strangers usually never did such a thing.

"I just... you could say it's about the one who brought me to this world."
"Your parents?" Mark asks, obviously confused over the way Jeongguk was talking.
"Something like that. They had been asking me to do something and once I stopped, they just threw me away."

Mark looks at him with sad eyes, looking as if he knew what Jeongguk was talking about. "I understand man, I've been there too. My own dad told me to pack once he caught we with my boyfriend. It's really so fucked up." Jeongguk looks down, it's not really the same...

"But hey... do you even have anywhere to stay?" Jeongguk looks up before shaking his head. When he decided to accept the punishment, he never really thought of thing like that. "Man, what do you want to do? You can't just keep sleeping in a park every night."

Jeongguk just bites his lip. Mark stares at him for a while before they both hear a growl from Jeongguk's stomach. For a few seconds no one reacts. "You're hungry?"
Hunger... so this is why he feels like his stomach is burning, he nodes. "Do you have money?" Mark asks again.

Jeongguk shakes his head, feeling embarrassed for some reasons. Mark just sighs before taking his arm and helping him to stand. Come on I'll treat you to something. We'll think of where you'll stay after it.

Jeongguk follows him, thinking that Mark is just being nice. Not knowing an angel watching his from far, sending good and positive vibes toward them, wanting to help the angel that lost what was his twice.

"Be safe Jeongguk, thank you for not taking him away."
The angel whispers before retreating to beyond. He'd come back, he'd help him no matter what, even if it meant to give birth to himself. He owes him, after all he was the one who always asked him to stop.

"Absolutely not, what do you mean you're leaving?"
Jimin asks, panic taking over all his face. "It was my idea Jimin, I can't just let him get punished over a favor he did for me."
"He did it because he wanted to. You can't just leave like this."
There is no way Jimin lets him.

It's been centuries, for years he'd been trying to protect him from something like this. How can this be happening all of a sudden? Doesn't he know he's giving away a blessing for a cursed?
"Jimin.... you need to understand!" Tae says, sounding like he was pleading.

"You're my best friend! I just didn't want to leave before telling you about it... Before saying goodbye because this might take forever. It's already hard for me to leave you here."
If angels were capable of crying, he knew both of them would be tearing up at this point.

"Then tell me why are you leaving your best friend over an angel of death? seemingly even for ever."
Jimin asks, feeling betrayed. He knew why, he knew even better than Taehyung himself but why despite all that happened, why is Taehyung still this involved with Jeongguk?

"Because I feel like it's my fault and angels are not meant to feel guilt. If I do it means I've done wrong."
"But you didn't force him to." Jimin stated.
"I could have without meaning to. It's a part of my power to bring people to the direction of luck and life and kindness."

"Did you use your power on him?"
"no but I talked to him. If I wouldn't maybe he would never..." Taehyung looks down. Jimin doesn't understand, Taehyung just can't live on thinking that he made another angel suffer. It doesn't feel right to leave Jeongguk like that.

"But what about the children you never gave birth to? Are you going to just leave them be?"
"There are other angels like me too and I might come back..."
Jimin just looks away, frustrated with the fact that once Taehyung makes a decision no one can change his mind.

"Jimin please, just wait for me."
Jimin looks up, sighing in defeat, it's not like he can change his mind anyway. "you don't need to say goodbye to me, you might get banned from here but I can still come down there. You know how to ask for me right?"

Taehyung just smiles, grateful that his best friend still wants to support him despite everything. Jimin doesn't return the smile but he hopes, he really hopes Taehyung doesn't get to feel stocked again, more than he already is anyway.

Jeongguk didn't say anything during the lunch he had with Mark. Mark also seemed like he wanted to respect him by letting him just eat in peace but when they finished eating he looked at him worriedly. "Are you sure you'll be okay? I'd let you stay with me but I don't live here."

"I'll be fine. I just need to go and see a friend." Jeongguk says before shaking hand with him. As he touches his hand he knows, this boy has 23 years and five months and 25 more days to live. He gulps, at least he has some time. He hopes to meet him again.

He walks away from the boy, going straight to the only place he can think of. He goes inside and sees a girl in the reception.
"I'm here to visit Jung Hoseok."
The woman looks at him before typing the name on her computer. "Are you a family or a friend?"
"A friend."

The girl nodes before checking again and giving him direction. Jeongguk already knows where to go, he enters the familiar room where Hoseok is sleeping, looking at the unconscious body. He goes closer and sit, closing his eyes and trying to concentrate.

Before he knows it Hoseok is standing in front of him. Not him exactly, more like his soul. At first he looks confused but as soon as he looks at his own unconscious body he understands. "Did you let me out?"
"Yeah... it'd be lonely staying in your mind."

"You really aren't going to kill me are you?"
Hoseok asks, he looks worried.
"Do you want me to kill you? To take away that chance to have another birthday with your best friend?"
Hoseok just looks down.
"Then live." Jeongguk says as if it's the most natural thing to say.

"What are you talking about?"
Hoseok looks at him as if he lost his mind, there is no way he can just live. He's in a coma for fuck's sake.
"Your body always seeks to stay alive, it was ready to die when you had the accident but I never touched to kill you, you can live again."

"And how am I suppose to do that?"
"I don't know but I know there is a chance. If I keep away from you, eventually you have to wake up, if you try hard enough of course."
Jeongguk says, looking genuinely as if saving Hoseok is the only thing he's seeking.

"Why me? Why are you so fixated in keeping only me alive?"
He asks, confused over the fact that he's getting help from this particular angel to live
"Because it's not fair. Destiny is not fair." Jeongguk says, tears start sparkling his eyes again but he won't let them fall.

Hoseok sees the sparkles, frowning in confusion. "Since when angels can tear up?"
"I'm not an angel anymore, not until I kill you."
"I still don't understand why you're sacrificing this much for a nobody like me."
Jeongguk bites his lip.

"Do you know how people become an angel like me? We die as humans with certain conditions. Instead of letting us in beyond, they lock us in the shape of angels and give us something, either a curse or a blessing. I got the curse and I don't even know why." Jeongguk whispered.

"For centuries I had to kill, to destroy what made people happy. To be hated by everyone. There is this angel, he gave birth to you. He always preaches about how I'm taking away all he created and he said the same for you. That day I asked who you were."

"And when I knew your name and story, I realized you're just like me. Trying to be your best but in the end being a nothing in the hands of destiny. It made me question why I'm even doing this. I don't like this, what can be worse? I just wanted to stop, to be me!"

"But destiny is cruel, it turned me into a human with certain conditions to torture me until I surrender to it. But I don't want to, I want you to live, I want destiny to pay."
Jeongguk's voice shakes when he finishes explaining, his hands holding his chair tightly.

Hoseok looks at him sympathetically, wondering how lost the boy in front of him could be. He never imagined an angel could be able to feel this much emotions. If he didn't have much reasons to live, suddenly a part of him wants him to keep fighting. And just then the door opens.

Both looks toward the door when a very confused Namjoon enters.
"Ehmm, sorry. Didn't know he had visitors. No one really knows."
Namjoon says before entering, feeling a bit hesitant about getting closer to the other boy. He's not sure why something feels very off.

Hoseok looks at his best friend, smiling because he already missed him before looking at Jeongguk, suddenly thinking of something.
"Jeongguk, tell him your my friend from Gwanju and you came here to live with me for a while but then you heard about the accident."

Jeongguk just frowns, what? why would he? But hoseok just points at namjoon as if to say "Hurry up."
"I was his friend in Gwanju. He said it's ok to stay with him for a while, didn't know about what happened till now."
Jeongguk says and namjoon just looks confused.

"What's your name again?"
"Jeongguk."
"He never mentioned a Jeongguk... What's your last name?"
Jeongguk hesitates... he's not sure what to say, he just says the first think he can think of. "Jeon."
namjoon looks as if he's not really buying it at all.

"Tell him we only agreed yesterday and maybe I wanted to tell him when we went out for my birthday."
Hoseok says again, trying his best to be convincing and Jeongguk repeats.
"Oh that make sense. Still... that's unfortunate. why did you even come here for?"
None of the boys know.

"To find answers."
"Answers to what?"
Jeonguuk looks down, to what? What is he really seeking for himself now?
"To life and death concepts. Tell him that Jeongguk."
Jeongguk doesn't know why he should but he repeats anyway.
"Oh... so he told you about me?"

"Not much."
Jeongguk said, he doesn't know what does this have to do anything with namjoon. namjoon just goes toward him and turns around before sitting, showing him a very small birthmark on the back of his neck.
"What's that?"
"The rebirth mark, I've been studying it."

Rebirth!! He heard about it but it was very rare. Basically when humans die 4 things might happen to them.
1) They go to beyond.
2) They live as an angel.
3) They come back to life to seek something they lost or seeked in their previous life.
4) They turn into nothingness.

In his case he was the second, or maybe even third but the third or forth conditions were very rare. He never expected namjoon to be one of the a few chosen ones by faith to come back to life. And wait studying? How much does he know about these things?

"I've always been interested and once I found this book about rebirth and death and everything from afterlife. It looked like a myth but since then i started to collect. I want to know why I came back here y'know?"
Jeongguk smiles and looks down. "So that's what Hoseok meant."

Namjoon... He might just be the one he's looking for to help him get his answers. About how to save hoseok, how to fuck up with destiny and how to survive. "Now that Hoseok let you, you can stay with me until he wakes up." That sounds just perfect!

"Taehyung have you lost your mind?"
"No seokjin, I'm asking destiny to give me the same punishment as Jeongguk for causing what he did. If you don't I'd have to seek for angel of fairness and it'd just make things longer but the result the same."
Taehyung states confidently..

"you don't know what you're playing with Taehyung." Seokjin warned, knowing full well that if he lets this happen things might get even more out of hand than before.
"I just want what's fair. Guilt is not meant for angels so I need to cleanse my wings."

"But you don't even know how long this is going to take, what if you never come back. You'll live forever as a human and there will be no end."
"I'd chose that over the guilt I'm feeling right now."
"But is it just the guilt?" Seokjin asks in frustration knowing well it's not.

"You're not one to question me hyung, I'm a blessed angel."
"And I'm the one who blessed you."
Taehyung still stares in front, showing no sign of giving up on his face. "Do your job hyung, if you don't you'll be in trouble and you know you will."

Seokjin looks defeated, why hasn't it ever been easy?
Taehyung is right, he can feel it that his powers are warning him to do what he's asking. As a blessed angel he has a right to ask for destiny to lead him and he has to do it. He just hopes it all ends well.
